@AhmadAlony123 the RED One camera has a built in timelapse function. So I just told the camera to capture frames at a particular interval and then let it go. Using DSLRs, like in some of my other videos, requires a little more work. But I usually just use those for night shots as they are better suited for that than the RED One.

    The 5D is an …
The 5D is an awesome little camera for the price; very flexible also. But image wise, the RED beats it hands down, if not for the 4K resolution (Soon to be 28K – Epic) than the versatility of the raw data. Not to mention the new RED Scarlett can shoot 100mb/s – That’s crazy.

But again, The 5D is just too smooth; you can put in grain afterward and tweak it, but the overall result – Red will win it every time, except of course for size and weight, 5D wins there hands down.

    If you mean better …
If you mean better as far as color and contrast, maybe if you have some nice settings in there. But of course the same thing can be said about film and the 5D2. Films not much too look at until you develop it. The same thing goes for the RED camera. You need to digitally process the images after they are shot, which I really like. Its like having a digital negative.

    The Canon 5D looks …
The Canon 5D looks better right off the bat only because the 5D is compressing the image in camera. The RED shoots RAW – and sometimes looks quite grainy until you tweak it and color correct it in RED CINE or RED ALERT in which case, it kills the 5D.

Plus the 5D is very “clean” which gives you a very video look, which is not the desired effect to try and mimic film.

    To try and compare …
To try and compare the Red camera against the 5D2 from videos that you have seen on you tube isn’t the best idea. The Red will smoke the 5D2. The H.264 compression is a joke. If anything the 5D2′s video function reminds me of an HVX with a 35mm adaptor on it.

When you’ve seen both on a high res monitor at their full resolutions there is a huge difference.

I don’t know. The video is great, don’t get me wrong but, have u guys checked some of the Canon EOS 5D Mark 2 footage here on uTube? I think the picture quality of them are far more superior than RED Cameras. Of course it has its limitations but still.

I’d like to see this in 28k please, thank you

  • awalker599 says:

    Well what happens …
Well what happens when you shoot 2K is that your only using a center 2K portion of the sensor. So yes your field of vision would change. But you could also shoot with s16 lenses and when shooting in 2K to keep your field of view. Say if your shooting 4K with a 28mm lens. Then you would have to find a 28mm lens in s16 if you went to 2K. But its not that big a deal. I only shoot in 2K for slow-mo shots and I never use the method I just described. You just have to be aware of what’s going on.

nice work. i have been really impressed with the red one. some one told me that shooting in 4k as apposed to say 2 changes the depth of field. this doesnt make any sense to me. can you help?

    What do you mean. …
What do you mean. The only thing that I can think of is that the lens focuses the opposite way as a cine lens does. Really easy to learn to go the other way…at least for me it is.
