Digital Camera prices rant (and why older models go for so much)

The video starts out showing you two different types of CCD sensors used in Digital Cameras. Think of a CCD as a rain catcher, the larger it is, the more it catches. Well it is the same with light, the larger 1 1/8 sensors, used in many digital cameras a couple of years ago, captured more light than the smaller 1 2/5 sensors that are used in all cameras today, except for the highest end models. Sensor size goes down, but Megapixels go up, so smaller pixels mean less light captured, gain has to be turned up, resulting in more noise.
The smaller 1 2/5 sensors do well to 8MP, but above that noise or noise reduction is needed. Unfortunately these days most cameras have at least 10mp or more, on smaller sensors, which results in worse image quality.
Back in 2007 or 2008, the Canon A series line featured larger sensors in its 600 line, which also had manual control and flip screens. You could get one for $300 or less. Now you have to pay closer to $500 for a G11 with the same features.
The newest superzoom models, for instance, the SX20 (12mp) and SX120 (10mp) on smaller sensors mean noisier pictures than those taken with older models, like the sx100, s3 or s5is.
The result, prices for the older cameras are high. You’re lucky to get 50% off the suggested retail price of an old model, even though they are all used.
This is especially frustrating on eBay, a place where I used to get deals on cameras but now prices have gone up. I’d like a camera for wildlife photos, 10-12x zoom and no more than 8mp, but my budget is only around $100. The prices that this used photo equipment gets bidded up to on eBay is outragous. Its not the sellers fault, just rich snobs who are bidding up the prices because they can afford it. Thats why I hate auctions. Does anyone know a better place to get deals on used cameras? I’d never sell my older A series cameras for sure, but I would like to have something that could get me better close up shots of birds and insects. But I certainly dont have $200+ to spare which is the prices these S3 and S5 cameras are going for, USED. What can I say, shopping is no fun anymore. The rich snobs just have to ruin everything. I wanted to expand my photography, but at these prices I’ll just be sticking to landscapes, flowers, and great shapes of course.
But I may have a solution, a teleconverter lens which will attach to my camera and double the zoom range. They go for $50-$80 used, sure is alot cheaper than a new camera.
